Tolly Group Evaluation Validates Mirage’s Ability to Secure Networks
Austin, TX – October 30, 2007 – Mirage Networks, developer of patented Network Access Control (NAC)
solutions, today announced the results of an independent review by The Tolly Group, a leading global provider
of third-party validation services for vendors of IT products, components, and services. In the validation test,
The Tolly Group certified Mirage’s full-cycle network access control solution, including its ability to enforce
policy for managed and unmanaged endpoints, stop threats propagating within corporate networks, and govern
rogue endpoints and applications.
Tolly Group engineers examined the Mirage NAC solution for its ability to allow a wide range of devices to connect
to the LAN, while enforcing policy on devices and applications that fail to comply with IT security policies. The Tolly
Group measured the Mirage NAC solution against standard computers running Windows, Linux, and Macintosh
operating systems, mobile endpoints such as the Apple iPhone and Windows Mobile devices, gaming consoles,
unauthorized servers, and personal routers. Tolly Group engineers also validated the solution can govern high-risk
applications such as peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing and instant messaging services.
The Tolly Group test results show that the Mirage NAC solution:
- Protects customer networks from infected, out-of-policy, and unknown endpoints
- Detects, tracks, and/or stops unauthorized applications such as instant messaging and P2P file sharing
- Requires registration of unknown or rogue devices such as gaming consoles, personal routers, and
servers before granting network access
- Protects wireless networks from unauthorized mobile units such as iPhones and Windows Mobile
devices
“Mirage’s agentless NAC solution proved its effectiveness through a comprehensive set of tests by our
engineers,” said Kevin Tolly, president and CEO of The Tolly Group. “These test results are a valuable reference
for any organization looking to secure its network, whether it fully controls every device or provides access to a
wide range of unknown endpoints and applications. The solution proved to be effective even in an environment
with a disparate infrastructure allowing many types of devices to connect.”
Mirage Networks helps enterprises defend their networks from zero-day threats and policy violations with
patented, full-cycle, agentless network access control technology. The combination of access control, threat
prevention, and automated policy enforcement provides an in-depth view of endpoint activity throughout its
lifecycle and delivers powerful analysis and network intelligence for network history and usage.
“The results of The Tolly Group tests are clear,” said David Thomas, vice president of products for Mirage
Networks. “Mirage has repeatedly proven to our customers that we actually save them money by mitigating
real-world threats and risks facing network security managers today. Now an unbiased third party has put the
solution through the ringer and has seen the same results. And, unlike other solutions, this is a long-term
approach. Our policy-based enforcement and zero-day threat prevention will allow our customers to adapt as
technology advances and these threats evolve in the future.”
