Austin, TX – November 26, 2007 – Mirage Networks, developer of patented Network Access Control (NAC) solutions, announced today that it will join forces with the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas to provide on-going project assistance to KIPP Austin College Prep, a free, open-enrollment public charter middle school in East Austin. As a first step, Mirage employees are volunteering their time and expertise to help develop, improve, and maintain the KIPP Austin campus.
Since 2002, KIPP Austin College Prep has served middle school students in grades 5 to 8 in East Austin. Through an innovative educational method, dedicated teachers, and a longer school day, KIPP Austin students gain the academic skills needed for success in college and life beyond graduation. KIPP Austin serves a 99 percent minority population, of whom more than 90 percent qualify for the federal free or reduced meal program. The average student enters fifth grade with reading and math skills equivalent to second or third grade levels, but upon finishing eighth grade, students reach and exceed grade level expectations and gain admission to competitive high schools around Austin and the nation. In order to serve even more students, KIPP Austin plans to expand to 10 schools serving Austin students in pre-K through twelfth grade.
“We thought it would be a great idea to provide an opportunity for the entire Mirage team to work together on one important project,” said Greg Stock, president and CEO for Mirage Networks. “KIPP Austin serves a unique and necessary function in the Austin community, so we are proud to be able to help these teachers and students grow and improve their learning environment, and are excited to kick off what we hope will be a longstanding relationship.”
Mirage is an active member of the Entrepreneurs Foundation, and has donated stock options over the years in the expectation that those options will be available to fund projects in the future.
“We welcome the involvement of organizations like Mirage Networks and the Entrepreneurs Foundation in the support of KIPP Austin,” said Jill Kolasinski, Founder and Executive Director of KIPP Austin. “Many organizations see Austin as a great place for business, and by supporting organizations like KIPP Austin, companies can positively impact the future of our community.”
“Mirage involvement with the Entrepreneurs Foundation has helped us realize our core values of business leadership, philanthropy, and community development,” said Eugene Sepulveda, executive director of the Entrepreneurs Foundation. “By volunteering at KIPP Austin, Mirage is investing back into the community, making Austin a better place to live, work, and play.”
